A busy week tackling: explanation texts, fractions and the concept of incarnation.
When I first mentioned we were going to be focusing on fractions this half term, I wasn't met with the most positive of responses. However, after a motivational chat and finding our growth mindset. I am very proud to say that the children have tackled their maths lessons head on and realised fraction aren’t so bad after all.
Today (Friday) we have explored the question ‘What is a fraction?’. This then led us on to idea of equivalent fractions. We used lots of concrete materials, to help us with our understanding. We love strips of paper! Most of us were able to create our own fraction wall, and were able to spot equivalent fractions independently. We are all now feeling much happier, and are excited to extend and challenge our fraction knowledge. YAY!
This week has been R.E week in school. Our theme was Incarnation. I have been amazed by the children’s enthusiasm and their resolve in tackling such a complex idea. We have learnt it’s okay to be confused sometimes! The progress the children have made over the course of the week has been astonishing and I am incredibly proud of their efforts, please ask your children all about it. I will be uploading some pieces of work to the Work of Distinctiveness page early next week.
Thank you year 6 for a wonderful first week back after half term, you have all produced some fabulous work already. Keep it up!
Finally, I would like to wish you all a brilliant weekend. If you are celebrating Bonfire Night have lots of fun, but please stay safe.
This week’s secret word is ‘sparkler’.
