Homefield Cross Country crew Conquer Fritton Lake in style.

In this section...

Hardy Homefielders brave the cold to excel in Cross Country competition.

26 girls and boys from years 3 to 6 competed at Fritton Lake, the new venue for the interschool's cross country event.

Unfortunately Year 5 could not compete because they were on a school trip that had been booked well in advance.

School staff, Miss Studley and Mrs Duffield, were accompanied by lots of super supportive parents who braved the icy January temperatures to provide fantastic support to their own children and their team members.

The competition could not have started in a more positive way with 5 enthusiastic girls from Year 3 lining up on the multi-terrain course. Of the 5  an impressive 2 girls came in the top 10 which means they go on to represent East Norfolk at the next stage in Holt on 10th February.   When Rafferty appeared on the horizon in a comfortable 1st place the Homefield camp went crazy to cheer her home for a most emphatic victory in her first ever race. Soon to be followed by Ruby Rowland who also qualified in 7th place; brilliant running girls. Completing the team was Chanel 28th, Eva 30th and Abigail 31st.  Well done girls you set a high standard for the remaining races.

The Year 3 boys also ran the 1000m course through grassy, undulating terrain which was muddy in places too. Shaun was first home for our boys in 7th spot which means he has also qualified for the next round. Harvey narrowly missed out in 11th place with a bravely fought race. One to watch for next year.  the boys then finished in close succesion with Harry in 22nd, Joel in 24th and Dilon in 29th. Fantastic work boys.

Of the Year 4 girls and boys both Freya and George had strong runs to finish in the final qualifying spot of 10th with Evie 12th and Scarlett in 17th. Mark pushed to finish in 18th; he had a true look of determination on his face. Ethan finished 22nd and Callum F in 27th.  Super running.

Year 6 had the longest wait.  By this part of the day the temperatures had dropped but the children were so relieved to finally get underway that they put in speedy performances. The girls team was led by Lizzie who looked comfortable from the start and kept towards the front of the pack to qualify in 4th place.  Ellie, Isabella and Jessie finished 18th, 25th and 26th respectively.

The Year 6 boys concluded the programme with Ryan qualifying in 5th, Charles in 23rd, Jake in 36th and Dylan in 36th.  We were so proud of all the Homefielders who all completed the course and showed exemplary behaviour throughout the day.  Good sportsmanship and our Growth Mindset approach clearly evident in their conduct and pure effort to do their best.  Well done everyone and good luck to the 7 children in the next round on Feb 10th at Greshams School in Holt.
