Bye Bye September...one month in...

It has been a very busy week in Year 1, and the end of the first month already!

I am pleased to finally be able to announce the children who have been selected as representatives from Year 1 in the Homefield School committees. Our School Council members (who did a sterling job in the Macmillan Coffee Morning!) are Niamh and Mason. Our Eco Warrior is Maggie (with her fantastic knowledge of birds!). School Sports Representative is Kaden! Our Health and Safety member is Oliver H, whilst our Worship Committe member is Maddie. These children will all have special duties to perform throughout the year with members of staff who chair these committee meetings. Well done guys. And if you don't have a position this year, never fear as there are another five school years of representatives needed!

This week has seen our "Quizzes", or to us adult-folk, standardised assessments (tests). The children have done really well as this is a whole new experience, and one we all have to learn and become confident in. Whilst there have been some tears, there have been some giggles. The word you need is Greenday. Everyone has been reminded that the world will not end and their heads will not be chopped off if they make a mistake. We have seen great perseverance and fabulous attitudes to trying our best, and I am very, very, proud!

The Marble Rocket has reached the top already and so a "treat" must be in order. In class we have discussed an idea that will draw together the 'treat' but with a fundraising cause...stay tuned!

I have been back to London for the second of three days of training at the Early Excellence Centre. The children were fabulous for Mrs Taylor, and I am slightly poorer having bought more fantastic books from the centre's shop! Expect more mad ideas to begin bubbling in our classroom...

Whilst it would be great to shrink us all (and make for a quieter and tidier classroom at times), I do not have the gadgets or gizmos. However, be prepared to hear about our "mini-me" characters...

See you next week for more tales of Year 1!
