Well done Year 1

Year 1 have been very busy this week!

We have been reviewing our understanding of our Phonics and completed a practise Year 1 Phonics Screening Assessment and everyone did amazingly.  This involves children having to use their knowledge of sounds to segment and blend to read real words and Beagu (made up) words.  Keep up the daily practising at home of the Sounds found in Phonics Homework books.  We will reassess to measure progress before the Christmas holidays. The next set will be added this week as we have now started our Phase 5 sounds.  This week we have looked at 'ay - ay, ay play all day', ou - ou, bears about and our first split digraph i_e, 'i_e, i_e yikes, ride my bike!'  If you have any questions or queries don't hesitant to ask a member of the Year 1 team.

Our focus for Maths has been addition and subtraction within 10.  We have been using practical equipment as well as Part whole models to show our understanding.  This week we will be focusing on Subtraction within 10.  A useful website for Maths games is TOPMARKS- Lots of fun games - Hit the button is good for number bonds!

This is the final week for our Block of Science 'Seasonal changes - weather'.  Hopefully the Rain gauge homework got set up early to catch the patches of rain we have had during the weekend!! If you are unable to print off any photographs please email to mrscarter@homefieldprimary.co.uk and I will print off when in school.

Just a little reminder about uniform - a few children are not wearing completely black school shoes, black trainers are fine for PE but not part of the daily school uniform.  Also School jumpers and cardigans do not include hooded jackets.

PE - is currently Monday indoor and Friday outdoor.  As the weather is getting cooler, warmer sports trousers and jumper/jackets maybe a good idea (it was a little chilly on Friday!)

Friday morning Year 1 joined the rest of the school at the Bradwell School War Memorial Service for Remembrance.  All Year 1 children stood and listened brilliantly.  We were so impressed because we did have to stand for a longtime.

Have a good week everyone, remember to keep up the FIVE home reads for Superstar readers and practising Rainbow words and sounds.
