We are half way through the school year!
We have had a mixed week of activities in Year 2.
The children have enjoyed our 2nd week of shape. I'm pleased a few of you looked on the Topmarks site and got some extra shape practice in. The children have used the i-pads in class too and they have loved learning in this way. We have focussed on symmetry this week.
The first week back we will be spending a week on 3D shapes then it's onto fractions. I'm really looking forward to teaching them fractions as we have just had some whole school staff training so we have lots of ideas to make it fun.
We have had fun with some rhyming poetry this week too. We have used the poem called 1492 (all about Christopher Columbus). Ask your children about it.
When we come back after the holiday we start an African topic. If your child has an atlas or could look up anything on Kenya it would give them a head start. We have booked an African day for 28th February (see the letter I sent out this week). I hope you can get your costume ready over the half term holiday. You will receive a letter about our school trip to Africa Alive. I have booked the trip for March 8th. See the letter for details (being sent out Feb 10th).
I'm publishing the blog a day early as I am out at cross-country tomorrow with some children from other year groups. So that leaves me to wish everyone a very happy half term.
We broke our record for team points this week as the number of children reading the blog has reached a high! Thankyou. Our secret phrase to bring back to school on Monday 20th February is 'We are record Breakers!'.
