Fun fun fun with fractions

In this section...

Getting our fractions in order.

I really am impressed with how hard the children have worked this week.  If your child is extra tired this weekend you will know why.

They have been trying to reason and reflect on their last week of fractions lessons. The photo shows them on the playground doing a practical activity of deciding where a fraction would go on a number line. This takes team work and a good understanding of fractions; well done children.

In literacy they have been learning how to write a recount with Miss Noonan. Ask them about it or why not write a recount of your weekend together and show us on Monday.

The best thing that I'm super happy about this week is Miss Noonan's introduction of the Rainbow Words. Your child has a set of words to learn how to read and spell.  As they progress they move onto a different colour of the rainbow in class. Sophia is whizzing through; she is already on yellow!  It has been a really good week for Sophia because she has moved onto pen too.  I wonder who will be next?

Next week we will be fitting some assessments in around our usual lessons.  As long as the children apply their growth mindset I am sure they will fly through them.

Next Friday (24th March) is going to be busy.  Firstly, it is Red Nose Day so remember to wear a red/white t-shirt and prepare a joke to share in assembly. Then in the afternoon I'll be holding the meeting for parents in the hall at 2.30pm.  As detailed in an earlier letter, it will be a chance for me to explain the End of Key Stage One assessments that your children are due to sit in May this year. I will have samples of papers on display so you can see the type of things that they will be asked to do.  I do hope you, or someone from your family, can make the meeting so we ensure our children are well prepared to sit the tests.

We say goodbye to Miss Noonan and Miss Kennedy next Friday too which will be sad because they have been a great asset to our Year 2 team and have really bonded with the children.

This week's Golden Awards went to Olly, Luke and Harriet.  Keep up the good work everyone and you could be next.

Have a relaxing weekend and keep practising those Rainbow Words.

This week's secret phrase is 'What superstars we are!'
