What a fantastic start to the year! I have been so impressed by how well all of you have settled in and your enthusiastic attitudes! I also don't think I have ever taught a more polite or well-mannered class. You have blown my socks off!

Our English work will be focused on writing to entertain, using Traction Man by Mini Grey to help us write fantastic character and setting descriptions. We have already thought about how the characters might be feeling, using amazing words like embarrassed, disappointed and brave and using the word because to help us give reasons for our answers. We then did some great thinking unscrambling sentences to make sure they make sense. Mr Young also brought in his own Action Man who is wearing his camouflage suit, sturdy boots and handy backpack. The children have loved reading the book and I can't wait to see what their final piece of writing is like!

In Maths we have been looking at place value, reminding ourselves of reading, writing, spelling, making and drawing our numbers to 100! We have also been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, something which I have sent home as homework to ensure the children feel really confident with it, especially when reaching those larger numbers! The secret word is florescent.

 

Our History topic is Voyages into the Unknown, looking at the lives of Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. We have spent this week learning about Christopher Columbus' life, acting it out and comparing what it would have been like to live in the 1400s to now! Next week we will be looking at Neil Armstrong's life and then decide who we think was the better explorer and why.

Well done to the 50% of the class who were Super Readers this week! Keep up the hard work! I hope more of you manage to read 5 times next week so that you can get your first sticker for your bookmark and help the class get 10 gems for the jar!

 

I have really enjoyed getting to know you all and am excited for all of our adventures to come!
