Countdown to Christmas......

Another busy week in Year 2 has seen us start the countdown to Christmas. When the children came into school on Monday they were excited to see that the classroom and school had been decorated for Christmas.

Thursday was the annual 'Decoration Day' where children and staff were busy getting creative to make things.  Some of the items we have made will be on sale at the Christmas Fayre this Saturday. The items for sale include a 'Sparkly Card Bauble', a 'Christmas Wreath' and a 'Christmas Tree Decoration'. They will cost 50p each or all three for £1.  It was lovely to see so many parents in to help the children in making their items.  We all appreciate the time you gave up to support us; the children get so excited to have you in class!

This week also saw us learn a little bit about St Andrew's Day; Scotland's special day.  Ask your child a few questions about it to see what they can tell you.

I was delighted that ten children came into school with our 'secret word' from last week's blog. Let's see if we can get even more next week. The secret word for next week is 'haggis'. Remember your child can earn 5 house points for writing the secret word and their name on a piece of paper and putting on my desk! Come on Harriers!!!!

This week was also assessment week where we have to see how much the children have progressed in reading, spelling, grammar and maths.  They have all tried really hard to do their very best.  Well done to them; it's all over now. Phew!

With just over a week to go before our Christmas play it is essential that the children who have lines to learn do so.  Many of them are very unsure although they have had their scripts for almost two weeks.  Please help out by going throught the lines with them.  They need to work on the volume of their voices too as it can be very hard to hear some of them. We're expcting the children to rehearse without scripts as from Monday so this weekend is very important.  If you have the costume ready we are happy to take them in school anytime.  We have a rail that the costume can be added to.  Please ensure the costume, or any accessories are clearly labelled with your child's name.

Have a great weekend!
