We know where we're heading.
Thank you to Mr Earle and his assistant for providing us with our first outdoor learning experience this week. We had a beautiful afternoon, in terms of weather, for taking our learning outside. The lesson was themed on using maps. Have you got any maps at home that you could use to find places of local interest? It's a really good skill to have and the children could tick off another life skill on their top 25 life skills passport.
Talking of the Life Skills passports...thank you to those children who are showing a real enthusiasm to show me that they can do lots of the top 25. Our class chart is filling up nicely. You can take a look when you come to parents' evening.
Thank you for signing up for a parent evening meeting next week. I will see you either Tuesday or Thursday. I will do my best to keep to time because I know how busy we all are. During the meeting I will be giving you all a letter with log in details in case your child would like to take their accelerated reader test at home. I'll explain more when we meet.
I have been given a mission by the school cooks......we are trying to encourage a few more children to try a school dinner from time to time. It would be good to try a hot meal in the middle of the day especially as it starts to turn colder.
This week we have started our RE block. The children have been learning about what it is like to be part of a Muslim community. They are getting quite expert at talking about the 5 Pillars of Islam. Thank you to those children who have brought work in from home.
In maths we have started column addition and subtraction. Ask your child to show you how we have been working this week. We will be continuing on with it next week as not all children are secure with it yet.
In English we have been looking at sentence structure within narrative. The children are trying to become more accomplished writers by including different devices to show their command of the English language so far. Talk to your child about it.
I am delighted to say that 20 out of 30 children earned their gold star for reading at least 5 times. We got a high score of 67% and came 2nd out of the whole school. Year 6 keep winning so congratulations to them but we keep coming 2nd by quite a substantial margin over other classes so well done Year 4; I am very proud of you.
Our secret word this week is 'mosque'.
Have an enjoyable weekend,
from Miss Studley and the Y4 Team.
