Our school vision ‘Curious Minds, Open Hearts & Joy of Learning’ is at the heart of all we do. At Homefield VC C of E Primary we strongly believe in providing the children with inspiring, creative and meaningful learning experiences that builds on their natural curiosity and ignites their passion for learning. Our D&T Curriculum is 'hands on' and designed to give children meaningful problems that they need to solve by designing and making a product. We aim to capture the children's interest through the use of engaging 'design questions' that they children will need to answer in each block of learning.

Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. Our children work on a range of projects and problems and learn how to take risks, become resourceful, innovate and evaluate design and technology whilst developing a critical understanding of the impact design and technology has on the world around them. 

At Homefield C of E Primary School we follow the CUSP Design and Technology Curriculum. The Curriculum is rooted in evidence-led best practice and we have purposefully developed our Design and Technology curriculum into blocks covering a particular set of disciplines including food and nutrition, mechanisms, structures, systems, electric systems, understanding materials and textiles. We weave in vertical progression to enable pupils to revisit key disciplines throughout their primary journey with increasing degrees of challenge and complexity.

In addition to the core knowledge required to be successful within each discipline, the curriculum outlines key aspects of development in the Working as a Designer section. Each module will focus on promoting different aspects of these competencies. This will support teachers in understanding pupils’ progress as designers more broadly, as well as how successfully they are acquiring the taught knowledge and skills.

Central to our children's learning are activities designed to develop their oracy and vocabulary skills to enable them to use the language associated with design and technology in a meaningful way when talking about their work. Our intention is that with exceptional teacher instruction, pupils are inspired to acquire the knowledge of design and technology and skilfully apply their understanding.
