A new year begins in Year 6!
We've had a positive start to the year here in Year 6.
In maths we've been concentrating on multiplying decimals and thinking more about place value. With SATs approaching we've been trying to use our knowledge to think about how we answer questions in the most efficient way, by actually thinking about the numbers and what the question is really asking us to do. It is important to have a positive mindset and not panic if we come across something challenging!
In English we have thought about how we can use flashbacks in our writing, with particular reference to different tenses. This links in with our SPaG work where we have been learning about the past perfect tense (I had eaten all my birthday cake, by the time the party had finished) and the present perfect tense (I have eaten birthday cake before). If you or your children are unsure about tenses there are some really great websites that could help you such as www.grammar-monster.com
We have spent most afternoons doing science and have learnt lots about how the heart and breathing work in the human body. We've used our P.E. lessons to investigate how our pulse rate and breathing change after exercise and also spent time learning about what might have a negative affect on our health and wellbeing such as smoking. You can see in the photo some of us taking our pulse rates.
Well done to those of you who handed in some excellent homework last term, the homework sheets with this half term's tasks have now gone home and we have received some work that has already gone on display. See the gallery section of the website for photos of some of our work.
In music Mrs Loveland has been teaching us about pulse and rhythm and we have had fun creating our own percussive compositions. See the gallery for photos of us performing them. House teams are all involved in the "House Shout" so ask your children what song they will be singing.
Please remember that P.E. is on a Wednesday and Friday so you will need your kit, with outdoor appropriate clothing for a Friday.
See the gallery section for more photos of some of the exciting things we've been up to.
