What we've got up to this half term.

The children have had a fantastic half term: they have achieved so much!

In English we have immersed ourselves in The Highwayman poem and have used it as a stimulus in both our descriptive writing and narratives from different perspectives.

The children’s growing enthusiasm for writing has impressed me; they should all feel proud about the pieces they have produced over the past six weeks.

This half term in maths we have studied: decimals, percentages and algebra. The children always approach new maths learning with wonderful tenacity and interest. We spent our last maths lesson of this half term cracking codes – solving algebraic equations. The children loved it! They actually complained when we had to stop for lunch.

Our topics this half term have been: the circulatory system (science), the water cycle (geography) and computing. The children have appeared to enjoy very topic – year 6 love to learn! We finished off our half term by combining their new knowledge and understanding of the water cycle and computing by creating an algorithm on Scratch to present the water cycle.

Will are still planning on doing the heart dissection next half term. A text will go out informing parents as to the exact date.

The children completed mock SATs week at the end of January. Every child made me and Mrs Thompson extremely proud as they all tried their very best. The results showed that the children have made wonderful progress during their time in year 6 but most importantly highlighted areas of learning which need to be improved upon.

Attached is the half term homework. There is an A and a B challenge for all areas. The expectation is that all children complete a piece of arithmetic, reasoning and a reading comprehension.

Reasoning: 15mins

Arithmetic: 15 mins

Reading comp: 20 mins

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable half term.
