New Rock-it ball club is a success
After a week dominated by assessments, it was good to see the launch of our new Rock-it ball club on Tuesday. It is open to Years 4/5/6 and is run by Mark Higgins from Go Geronimo. We are just setting up a sports board that will advertise lots of sporting opportunities. It is located near the first aid area so keep a look out. We are focussing on trying to get everyone signed up to at least one club to help towards the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Let me know if you have any ideas for a club; we are always open to ideas.
Spelling homework is in their folders from today. Try and encourage them to bring their folders in every day. I have given an extra Y5/6 word list this week. We are having a heavy focus on those 100 words. The children are expected to know and use at least 60 of those words in their every day writing by the end of Year 6. Please support them with this.
You will see the children have got two papers in their bags: arithmetic and reading. Again, please go through any they may have struggled with. I need the maths paper back in on Monday, but the reading can be kept. The maths paper is the past paper from the actual SATs in 2019. Please remember that it is a test of the whole Key Stage from Years 3 to 6 and we have not yet taught the full Y6 curriculum, so do not be alarmed if there are multiple errors. For example, fractions featured quite heavily, but we have not taught fractions yet.
I have added two more Spag.com activities as extra homework today. I have also shown the children a place where they can access some free mini tests with questions in the style they will encounter next May. Please go to 'CGP free 10 minute test'. You will see maths and SPAG options. They can even access questions from earlier year groups which is always a top idea for revision.
We produced some beautiful poppy art work this week to commemorate Remembrance Day for our fallen soldiers. I will try and photograph it and add to our art gallery next week.
Have a great weekend.
Miss Studley and Mrs Parker.
