Festivals and Celebrations

Welcome back! Sorry we have not been blogging for a couple of weeks!!

Reception have been very productive during the first week back.  We had a Whole School RE week were every year group focused upon Incarnation.  In Reception we looked at 'How God was brought to Earth through Jesus.'  So we looked at Life cycles of frogs, Caterpillars, Chickens and plants starting off as a seed or egg.  We also found out when our birthdays were and how we celebrate this special day - this part the children could have kept talking for hours about their own special days, which was lovely to hear their excitment!

Continuing on from RE week up until Christmas we will be focusing upon this terms topic ' Festivals and Celebrations'.  So far we have learnt about and experienced parts of Diwali, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year.  All the children found out some very interesting customs and stories which they have been recalling well during our discussions.  For the next two weeks we will be looking at Holi, Weddings around the world and Christenings as well as getting busy with our much anticipated EYFS Nativity 'Mary's Knitting.'  We certainly have some excellent X Factor contenders in the class with their beautiful singing voices!

Since the holidays Reception class have been on the 'Big Playground' during the lunchtime which they absolutely love! They have been mixing well with children from all year groups and taking part in lunchtime activities set up by the Mid-day supervisors and YEAR 5/6 Play Leaders.

Dates for the Diary.  Friday 1st December - DECORATION DAY - during the day every class in the school will be making decorations for the classroom and to take home.  Later this week there will be Sign Up Sheets for parents to come along and join in the fun and help your child and others to make decorations and complete Christmas crafts.  If you (parents) are working or unable to make it, grandparents, auntie, uncle are more than welcome to come along instead!

Saturday 2nd December - Homefield Christmas Fayre where there will be a variety of festive stalls as well as class stalls selling items which your child will have made in class.

Tuesday 5th December - EYFS Nativity (Nursery and Reception) there will be an am and pm perform to come along and watch ( two seat will be allocated to one performance) - letters to follow.

We fully understand time is precious at home, but please remember to find time to hear your child read and add a little comment into their Reading Record, practise saying and writing the sounds and also encourage where possible to do a little counting and adding 1 more/taking away 1.  Just a few minutes each day could really help your child's confidence.

If at all possible over the next couple of weeks if you have any 'junk' for modelling - boxes, bottles, containers etc we would be extremely grateful for model making.

Enjoy your week from All of the Reception Class Team.
