A busy first week back!
Just a quick update about our fantastic first week! Throughout the week we have been concentrating on settling in, getting use to the new routines and getting to know each other more.
Within maths the children have been impressing us with their knowledge of counting up to 10 and recognising the different numbers. They have worked really hard in their maths lessons and they seem to be enjoying it, we hope this continues!
English this week has been based on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which the children have been really engaged in. They have been thinking about the description of the different characters by using some adjectives, and they have written letters to the bears from Goldilocks apologising for her behaviour.
Afternoon lessons have been super fun this week, including beginning to look at the topic of toys and sorting old from new. PE lessons have been very energetic and they have been showing good listening skills. This afternoon (Friday), as a school, we celebrated Roald Dahl day. Each class teacher (years 1-4) read a Roald Dahl book and the children were allowed to go along and listen to their book of choice. The children seemed to really enjoy listening to his wonderful stories and hopefully they will want to listen to more in the future. Alongside this, we completed some Roald Dahl activities within class, and the children got to take these home.
This year, we will be promoting good behaviour through a number of different ways including; team points, moving the children up the behaviour chart to gold, amongst others. Once the children have been moved up to gold their name is written on a raffle ticket and placed in a box, ready for Friday. On Friday, Miss Randell picks out four random names and these children win a prize from the prize box. All of the children seem very inspired to aim for gold, so that they can not only get a sticker but also have the chance to win a price that week.. Therefore we hope this will be a good way to celebrate the wonderful behaviour, and kind acts shown by many members of the class on a daily basis.
Once again thank you for being patient with us on the door at the end of the day, we do appreciate it. If you do ever have any worries or questions, please do come and speak to us.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
From the Year One Team
