What a lovely week...
This week has been another busy week with lots of lovely learning. The children are settling in well and are continuing to show good manners and although they do need some reminders, they are showing good listening skills.
Children have been once again looking at Handa’s Surprise in English and have been writing sentences and completing reading activities based on this lovely book. Maths this week has been once again looking at numbers and place value. The children have been looking at numbers on a number line and counting forwards and backwards as well as finding one more and one less than a number. It is lovely to see the children trying super hard and showing how good they are with their number skills, so well done to them.
The afternoon topic this week has been Geography with the children looking at the area they live in and the area around them. They have completed many different activities on this including looking at google maps and drawing a map from their house to school. We have also completed other activities in the afternoons including reading and comprehension, art and some PSHE in class. We are allowing the children to have an extra playtime in the afternoons now, as the afternoons are long for them as there is a lot of sat down learning in year 1. They seem to be enjoying this and it gives them a small break between learning.
Can we please remind you to not only get your child to bring in a water bottle each day but also to only allow your children to have water in their water bottles for the classroom. Can we also remind you to get your children to bring in their reading records and books on a Friday so that these can be put to one side ready to be changed the following Monday, if they are not in on Fridays we will not be able to change it until the following Friday.
Thank you once again for being helpful at the beginning and end of the day, by waving and waiting for us to signal for your child to go with you. It is making the transition much smoother.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
From the Year 1 team.
