What a week...
This week has been a great week with the children working hard across all of the subjects.
Maths this week has been based on addition, with the children looking at the part whole model and number bonds to ten. The children are getting there, although it is small steps and reassurance when needed. We also began to look at subtraction on Friday, with the children taking away small numbers from numbers below 10, most of them already seem to have a good grasp of this. All of the Maths so far in year 1 has been predominantly up to the number 10, so is so that we can make sure that they are secure before moving on.
English this week has been once again based on the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’, the children have enjoyed lessons this week, as they have been able to look at the order of events and draw their own storyboards. They then went on to create their own story based on a different animal, and the family going through different obstacles. It was nice to see them having a chance to be creative with their writing and enjoying it.
The afternoons this week have been filled with lots of different activities including some reading and comprehension and some PSHE. The children have also started a new topic this week, which is the history of toys. So far, they have been comparing their toys to old toys, seeing what similarities and differences there are. With the topic being based on toys, the children are naturally excited and intrigued by the lessons and they seem to be enjoying them so far, hopefully this continues.
Well done to those children who helped to raise awareness of Anti bullying this week by wearing their odd socks this Friday, it was great to see so many odd looking socks! We also completed some lovely activities all around the topic of anti-bullying including some great discussions, designing their own socks and designing pictures showing how we are all different.
Hope you all have a great weekend! See you next week!
