Christmas starting early...
This week has been a great week with the children working hard across all of the subjects.
Maths this week has been based on subtraction, in particular counting back from a number. The children have shown a good understanding of this as they are good at counting. We have developed this by now getting them to use a number line and completing subtraction questions by jumping back. The children have found this tricky at times as they must remember to only count the jumps, but we are progressing well. All of the Maths so far in year 1 has been predominantly up to the number 10 with subtraction being no different, this is so that we can make sure that they are secure before moving on.
English this week has been based on the familiar story Little Red Riding Hood, the children have enjoyed lessons this week, as they have been able to look at the order of events and think carefully about the story. The children have focused on sentences and what needs to go into a sentence, including some work on verbs, which the children are showing good levels of understanding in. They have written some good sentences and we hope to develop these more next week.
The afternoons this week have been filled with lots of different activities including some reading and comprehension. The children have continued with history this week and have continued to compare old toys with new. Mrs. Bridge has been telling them stories of how she use to use different toys which the children have enjoyed. If you could tell them and even show them some of the old toys you use to play with when you were little that would be great.
Friday afternoon we had a wonderful and busy time, making Christmas decorations including some lovely place mats, which the children all designed to have for their upcoming Christmas lunch. The children also created some beautiful and festive Christmas cards, which are being sent to care homes, to give out some festive cheer. The children loved the idea of this and I think this helped them to be even more creative. We have also put our Christmas tree up so it is starting to feel more festive in class, the children loved adding the baubles to the tree!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
