A busy first week back...
It has been a very busy first week back after the Easter break. The children have come back with lots of enthusiasm for learning, which is great to see. We are once again trying to promote good manners and respect, and the children are being recognised in this around the school.
Maths this week was recapping their previous topic of addition and subtraction. The children have completed lots of different activities including playing a dice game where they have to roll and the two numbers they get they have to add or subtract them. It was really good to go back over and reinforce this area as it is so important for them to have this area secure before moving on.
English this week was based on the story 'The Queen's Hat' , they have completed lots of lovely activities based on this story including looking at the prefix 'un' and what this means, and using exciting verbs within their writing. The children seem to be really enjoying these new lessons. We also did talk about the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh, as this came up in class.
The afternoons have consisted of them looking into a new topic in RE which they seem to be enjoying and they have had some great discussions. We have also started our RSHE unit, with the children thinking about who is special to them and why. This was a lovely lesson, with the children coming up with lovely ideas. Each afternoon we have also started guided reading sessions with your children, in which they are in a group and read with the teacher and TA once a week. This should help to boost their reading skills and confidence.
The children have settled back in beautifully after the break and we hope this continues.
Have a lovely weekend.
