A fun and busy week learning new things...
Hope you are all well. We have had a busy week this week with lots of exciting learning opportunities. Today we had a PE specialist come in and do some fun activities with the children including some basic elements of a game called Tchoukball. The children loved it!
Maths this week has moved onto looking at multiplication. We have been practising counting in our 2s, 5s and 10s. The children have progressed at this which is great to see! We have also been looking at using arrays, the children have learnt the columns and rows and how it can be easier to count them all up.
English this week has been focused once again on the story Pinocchio. The children have managed to write some fantastic sentences, which have included capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. They have also been putting in some fantastic vocabulary with different adjectives, verbs and adverbs being used.
The afternoons have been full up, with lots of excitement, including some great science lessons looking at different plants we find in the wild. The children really seem to enjoy the science lessons in class which is nice to see. I am pleased to update you on our beans the children planted, we have got a couple of them starting to sprout and grow. Hopefully some more will grow over the coming week. We have also completed some more RSHE this week, the children were exceptionally grown up when we covered the parts of a body and discussed our private parts. We talked about the scientific names for those parts and the importance of keeping them private. This was of course kept very basic for the children, but this is very important for them to learn.
We have continued with the big push this week with our reading and the children have started to show a good buzz with wanting to read more, please push for this at home too. We are aiming for a minimum of 5 reads a week but hoping for more! We had 17 children read 5+ times this week, hopefully next time we will reach the big 20! I have also said that the children can read by themselves at home and write in their reading records but if you could please just check these to make sure they are completed correctly that would be great, thank you.
Hope you have a lovely weekend
From the Year 1 team
