Money, money money!
Our main event this week was preparing to open our own 'Intergalactic Bakery'. Our 3 week maths topic culminated in our grand finale of making and selling 'Moon Rocks' to our families.
We had spent time calculating the ingredients we would need to buy and how much it would cost. There were so many maths and real-life skills involved. It was a joy to see children of all abilities joining in and seeing the value of being able to use money in a real context. We often refer to it in class as 'Maths in Action'. This helps them to see a purpose to their learning. We all had lots of fun, especially whilst baking.
Thank you so much for supporting your children. On Monday we will be counting the money and calculating to see if we have made a profit. With any profit we will purchase some maths equipment for our class. All ideas welcomed.
Please note that with all the excitement of today we did not fit our weekly spellings in. The test will be postponed until next Friday so there are no new spellings this week.
Next week we will be starting a poetry unit on the theme of Christopher Columbus in literacy. In maths we move onto a topic on Geometry which will involve learning about 2d and 3d shapes and looking at mathematical patterns and sequences.
The secret phrase this week is linked to our Growth Mindset 'I never give up'.
Have a great weekend
Miss Studley and Mrs Ashington.
