We have been experiencing life in 1666...

Welcome Back! I hope you all had a restful half-term break and enjoyed the warm weather!

We are back in full swing! New topics started and lots of remembering needed to help us out this week!

In English, we have started a Fairy Tales topic. We have read a 'traditional' version of Goldilocks by Tony Ross and then read an 'alternative' version called Goldilocks Rocks by Nancy Loewen which is told from Baby Bear's (I mean Sam's) perspective. The children were great at spotting similarities between the traditional tale and other books we have read this year like The Tunnel and George and the Dragon. Having read the children's work this week, there have been far too many crimes against the full stop, so next week we are going to make sure we stop committing these terrible offences and remember how important the full stop is to our writing! Challenge accepted?

In Maths, we have been revisiting skills like our times table knowledge and number bonds and using them to solve less familiar problems to extend our thinking further. We will be doing the same next week to ensure we are completely happy with what we have learned and can use it to extend our thinking too! The secret word is wattle and daub.

The class really seem taken by our Great Fire of London topic in History and we started it by watching a video which took us on a tour around the streets of London in 1666. We noticed the houses were very close together and were all made of wood. When we learned that there was a hot, dry summer too, we weren't surprised that there was a fire! We are also glad that houses are now built out of less-flammable materials and that we have fire alarms in our houses too! We also learned about some of the jobs people would have had in 1666. Can you remember any of them?

We will be making our own houses in the style of the ones in 1666, so if you have any shoe boxes or small boxes that we could use to make them, please could they be brought in over the next couple of weeks, ready to start building them at the end of the month. Thank you.

A letter also went out today about swimming in July. Do ask if you have any questions!

Have a lovely weekend.
