I am writing to inform you that our Year 2s are fabulous learners!
Where has the time gone?! What a busy half-term it's already been and we're now half way through!
In English we have been learning about formal letters. We explored their features and have used the 'Talk for Writing' approach to learn a formal letter off by heart with actions. Because we know this letter, we can use it to write other letters as we have good words and phrases that help us organise our writing to draw upon. We have planned letters to explain to Mr Young why we can't possibly come to school ever again, with some creative reasons! We will begin writing them next week which is why I set the children the challeneg of remembering their addresses for Monday!
In Maths, we have finished learning about measuring length after doing lots of practical measuring and comparing activities and are now learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We can describe their properties and have been making 2D shapes on geoboards and drawing them accurately on squared paper too!
Our RE topic was exploring the good news that Jesus brought, using His teachings and Bible stories to understand that Peace, Friendship and Forgiveness were all important things that Jesus taught us about and we can use these as a guide to help us live a good life.
We have now moved onto our History topic, exploring 'What Makes Great Yarmouth Great!' We are looking at the seasides of the Victorian Times and comparing them to now. We found out lots of surprising things! We also had to work out how old we thought some of the main attractions in Great Yarmouth were and were very surprised that the piers were more than 100 years old!
In PE we are practising our hand-eye coordination, using tennis balls to throw, catch and use a tennis racket to balance, hit and bounce the ball with. We will continue to develop these skills for the rest of the half-term.
Have a restful weekend!
