A lovely week...
Hope you are having a good week. We have had a brilliant week again in year 2, with lots of great learning.
Maths this week has been a mixture of things, but all within the topic of addition and subtraction. The children have shown good levels of understanding, and have been applying their place value skills to their new calculations. We have once again looked at balance equations, adding larger numbers and bridging ten. The children have found these methods ok, and have worked through the maths fairly well this week.
English this week has been based on a new story called The Crow’s Tale. The children seem to enjoy this book and have loved looking at the beautiful illustrations. We have had a think about woodland creatures and what they would be doing in the woods. We are looking forward to seeing the interesting writing they do in this story.
Topic this week has now moved onto Science, with us looking at the area of Materials. The children have learnt about some of the materials in everyday objects around them, and have researched a particular material using the school tablets. They have also conducted mini experiments on materials to see which materials are more suitable for certain jobs.
We are continuing to push for superstar readers each week, so please continue to help/monitor your child reading at least 5 times a week (although if possible each day/night).
Just so you are all aware on Thursdays we are also joined by a student called Mrs Matthews, who will be helping us with readers etc.
A big thank you for all of the Harvest Festival donations!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.
From the year 2 team.
