Back with a bang! Diwali, Holiday Brochures, the Column Method and Noah's Ark.

Welcome back! We have really got stuck in again this week and are already filling our brains up with new knowledge!

In English we are writing Non-Fiction texts this half term, starting with a holiday brochure! We spent the week looking at different holiday brochures, how they were laid out (their shape), what persuasive tools and words are used in them and started writing a whole class one about the Stone Age settlement Skara Brae that we learned about last half-term in History!

In Maths, we are continuing with addition and subtraction and have started using the column method properly to add with an exchange. I was so impressed how the children took on board this new method and linked it to our previous one to really understand why we were exchanging and what that meant. I just had to give them all the Golden Award this week for their hard work! We will carry on with this for subtraction and then move onto multiplication later on this half-term.

Our current topic is RE and we are exploring what it is like to follow God, looking at the story of Noah and the covenant God made with him. We have linked this to promises and agreements that we make every day and in the wider world to make it a better place and will then start thinking more specifically next week about the promises that Christians make when they get married.

In Computing, we will be developing our Scratch programming skills, looking at how to make a game. I can't wait to see what they do!

We will of course be continuing with our weekly German lessons looking at how we say where we live, what the days of the week are, what the weather is like and the alphabet! Get ready for some more German songs!

Our other topics this half-term are Music and Art where we will be focusing on the idea of diversity and creating a whole-school art project. We will also start rehearsing for our Christmas play, involving a contribution from Y1-Y6 which will then be put together to tell the story of the nativity with songs, costumes, dancing and even some speaking parts! I will let you know more soon about what we might need!

We will be making something next week to place in our Remembrance Garden on Thursday 11th November and take part in our whole-school remembrance assembly outside.

Decoration Day this year will be on the Friday 26th November, so anticipate Christmassy crafts to be coming home that day!

A few future dates for your diaries for after Christmas are:

Gymnastics lessons: 7th Feb - 28th March, every Monday in the Hall (so children won't need socks like last year). Please come to school in PE kits.

Swimming Lessons: 13th June - 11th July, every Monday at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy. The children will need to wear their swimming costumes under their uniforms in the morning. We will go by coach to the pool, have our lesson, change back into our dry uniform and then head back to school before lunch. Don't forget to bring your pants! I will give more details nearer the time about what else you may need to bring.

Have a lovely weekend!
