Taking off with our tables!
This week has flown. We have been doing lots of exciting things.
English has been my favourite lesson of the week. We have been continuing our story writing on the theme of stories set in history. We are reading Oliver Twist. The children are very engaged and we have developed a rich language when we have been describing our settings and characters. Why not sit down at the weekend and watch the film Oliver Twist together. I'm sure the children will be able to tell you lots about the book.
In maths we have been continuing with place value. We have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10. Pick a number and ask your child if it rounds up or down. We have started using our online Times Tables Rock Stars. A letter went home over a week ago about it but if you have lost it the log ins have been stuck inside your child's reading journal. Encourage them to log on and practise their tables. They have been assigned some of the times tables to have a go at. They need to play on the 'Garage' section. If they are feeling up for a challenge they should go on the 'Studio' section which will include all tables up to 12x12. This will allow them to appear on the whole school leader board. Teachers are on there too so it fosters some healthy competition.
It is great to see the reading starting to take off this week. Congratulations to the Superstar Readers who have earned their first sticker on their bookmark.
See you all next Friday afternoon at 2.30pm if you can make it into class. Your child will be able to talk through what they have been learning in their Victorians topic and show you some work.
The secret word for this week is 'Oliver Twist'. Please get you child to write it down on a piece of paper with their name and hand it in on Monday morning. Team points are awarded.
Have a great weekend,
From Miss Studley.
