Year 4 invite you into our collective worship next Thursday, 10.15a.m.
We have been busy with assessments this week; mainly in reading. In English the children have been writing their non-chronological reports. They have given us lots of facts about a creature that was created for them to write about. I am very impressed with the quality of their writing. It will all be going into their books so you will get a chance to see for yourselves at parents' evening in October.
In maths we have been continuing with Place Value. The children have been counting back through zero into negative numbers. Ask them about the Place Value game we played with a partner; it was lots of fun and really got them thinking. Also we are delighted to welcome Miss Thompson back to school. Every day Miss Thompson takes out a small group of children to boost their maths. We identify the children who have not grasped the objective for the maths lesson that day. They are then given extra tuition for about 20 minutes. We call it 'The 1 o'clock Club'. The children vary from day to day depending on need etc. Ask your child if they have had a session. This could spark a converstation about their learning which is always a good thing.
Thank you to the few children who have already brought their Life skills passports in. We have ticked some skills off the class chart. Keep it up and we will have such independent children in no time!
We came 2nd in the Superstar readers competition this week. 16 children in our class got a gold star this week (53%) which is equal to our highest score. Many others were only a short way off. Only Year 6 did better than us so well done.
13 children read last week's blog. I'd really love to see more so if you know one of your friends who isn't reading it, help me to persuade them that is a good way to aid communication between home and school.
Congratulations to Cole, Ruby R, Connie, Harry, Ava, Molly and Lucy who have all progressed to the Orange words on our rainbow.
Our Roman topic is not fully underway yet because we haven't started that block but Mrs Corby has started some mosaics art work. Have a look at this week's featured photo to see how the work is progressing.
Please return the permission slip for our residential trip to Kingswood. I know it isn't until May 9th 2018 but it is surprising just how much forward planning needs to go into the organisation of the trip. If you have any early concerns or questions please ask. If they are general questions I am sure I will cover them in the parent meeting that I will hold some time after Christmas.
Happy birthday to Toby for Saturday and Harlow and Rafferty for Sunday. See you on Thursday for our child-led collective worship in the school hall.
Have a great weekend. The secret word this week is 'mosaic''.
Miss Studley and the Year 4 team.
