We've had a lovely first few days back.
We are learning about the Romans in Britain as our first topic block. Thank you to those of you who have already shared the Knowledge Organiser with your child that was sent home yesterday. We are looking forward to our trip next Thursday (12th). One of the parents asked me if the children have to arrive at 7.45a.m or are we departing at that time. We aim to depart at 7.45 so if they could arrive 5 mins earlier at 7.40 so we can do a quick head count please. If your child requires a school packed lunch please advise me or the office on the Wednesday please.
We will be learning about place value in maths for the next 4 weeks. Help your child to read 4 digit numbers and recognise the value of each digit in its place. There are lots of fun computer games on Topmarks. Google it. They're all free. I have shown the children how to access the website. We played a fun place value game on the field today. Ask your child to tell you about it.
In English we will be starting with a block of poetry, more specifically Kennings poetry. We will be linking it with our Romans topic where possible.
In PE we will be having outdoor games on a Wednesday afternoon. Watch the weather forecast and make sure they have a tracksuit for the colder days. We are doing a dance unit on Friday afternoons. We made a great start today with our Roman soldier themed movements.
Well done to those of you who have already covered their reading diaries and read at least twice. We are having a huge push on reading for enjoyment this year but we are still going to keep up with recording our reading progress between home and school in a diary. Bring them in every day.
The secret word is 'Romans'.
Have a great weekend
Miss Studley and Miss Thompson.
