Colchester Castle Adventures

In this section...

Learning outside the classroom is fun.

We have done some lovely things this week but the highlight has to be the school trip to Colchester Castle. We had such a brilliant day learning about history in such an inspiring setting. Talk to your child about our guide who was called Wayne.  He was especially funny. The children were hooked on his every word! This week's featured photograph is from the trip.  If you would like to see more photos bring a memory stick in and I'll copy them for you.  In this picture they are giving the trip marks out of ten.  As you can see they all really enjoyed it!

In maths we have been learning about Roman Numerals and rounding numbers to 10.  In English we have been learning about Kennings poems.  We will continue this next week.

It was good to see children signing up to clubs that will start next week.

We complete a 10 in 10 maths exercise every day.  Your child then takes them home to share with you. Please look out for them.  A few minutes every day to go through these with your child will make a huge difference.

Your child should now have two books from school.  One is their reading book; thank you to the parents who have written me messages in the diary to feedback on the suitability of the book.  We have acted accordingly where needed. The second book is a library book and may be at a higher (or easier) level than your child's reading age.  We are trying to promote a love of books and reading so please share the books with your child to enable you to model your enjoyment and interaction too.

I have now set an activity on for your child to try. I will set a new one every week as a little bit of extra homework.  It supports the learning we are doing in class so again is hugely beneficial to access the program at home.  This is also true for Times Tables Rockstars.  All log ins can be found on the inside cover of their Reading Diary.

Thank you if you have brought in any old batteries from home.  We are continuing to recycle them so please keep them coming.

Have a great weekend.  I hope you can make the most of this beautiful weather. The secret word is 'Camulodunum' (which is the Roman name for Colchester).
