We have started our music block this week, and it's all things Mamma Mia going in Year 4. We have been learning some Abba songs and adding instruments to learning the song itself. It has been very enjoyable. The children in the class with a musical background have been very useful to add another dimension to the lessons. We will be continuing into next week.
The children have also enjoyed finishing off a piece of the science learning about teeth from the previous topic. We set up our egg experiment to observe the effects of certain liquids on teeth enamel. Talk to your children about the results they have been observing. It's a simple experiment you could try at home too.
We finished our non-fiction unit this week. I have marked a few of the letters so far. The standard is high, but the thing that pleases me the most and I have shared this with the children, is the responsibility they are taking for their own learning. They are noticing progress they are making, compared to the last unit and adding things in that they missed out last time we wrote persuasively. I am super impressed. We are now starting our fiction unit on the Iron Man. More about that next week.
In maths, we have started learning about money. Please make sure your child knows the basics by letting them count real coins. Some of our children struggle to identify all the coins. They need to see the link between decimals and money.
Thank you for getting the slips in for our trip to Gressenhall. I sent out the costume advice today. I have asked Mrs Robson to add the payment option to Parentmail so keep checking to see if that is live, so it is all paid before the end of June.
Have a great weekend. The secret word is 'Mamma Mia' as no doubt your children will be singing it all weekend after our music lessons!
From Miss Studley and Mrs Clarke.
