A musical week
Well done to the children for embracing the music unit. We have been learning lots of Abba songs and adding musical instruments to the song we have been learning (Mamma Mia) using chime bars, recorders, glockenspiels and hand bells. The children have learned how to technically appraise a song and have developed their use of musical vocabulary. It has been enjoyable for all (well, maybe not for Year 5 who have had to endure it through the wall!).
We have been reading the Iron Man in English and responding to that in our latest fiction unit. Again, I pleased with the quality of the work I am seeing. I am constantly reminding them of the high standards we expect, and we are seeing results.
In maths, we are continuing on with money. Next week, we will be having some assessments, but we will try and keep it as low-key as possible.
Reading has been a little disappointing. We had 7 children this week who had their diary signed zero times. Well done to the 17 children who read at least 5 times with signatures in their diaries from you at home. This was our lowest week so far..... I have sent polite reminder texts out to the parents of the 7 children who are not supporting the class in the reading chain competition. Fingers crossed we can start to improve. We are in direct competition with Year 3 next week.
The trip payment can now be made on Parent mail. Remember we need the money in by the end of June, preferably the end of next week would be ideal for admin purposes. Thank you to those who are swift at responding. I am still waiting for two permission slips, but again texts have gone out to those families.
Have a great weekend and a happy Father's Day out there to all the dads, or maybe to the adults at home who cover that parenting role. The secret word is 'torrential'.
