Welcome Back Everybody

Hello Everybody, and welcome back to what has been a very positive first week of the new school year: the sun has shone down on us, the staff are refreshed, the children are keen and everybody is smiling!

As well as establishing our new classroom routines, we have already completed lots of learning.

In English, we are studying Journey by Aaron Becker which is a wonderfully imaginative picture book with NO WORDS. This will be our stimulus for our first unit of writing and the children really enjoyed telling the story in their own words and thinking about the emotional journey of the main character.

Maths work begins with place value and we have revisited numbers to 1000 ready to extend our understanding of the number system to 10,000 and introduce negative numbers over the coming weeks.

Our first subject block is History and we are studying Roman Britain. The children should already be able to tell you which emperors tried to conquer Britain, when, why, and whether they were successful. We have also introduced the resistance from Boudica and used a Roman’s description of her from the time to create their own impression.

The children don’t know yet, but Miss Buck (our Music lead) has arranged external tuition for the whole class this half term on the UKULELE!!! I can’t wait J

Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.

Mrs Newman, Mrs Wilkinson and Miss Thompson.

p.s.

this week’s secret word is GLORY. Write it down and show me next week for a team point reward.
