Matisse & Hundertwasser
Matisse & Hundertwasser.
Year 4 have started their Art journey this year with a collage project inspired by Austrian-born visual artist and architect (who also worked in the field of environmental protection), Friedensreich Hundertwasser and the French painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, Henri Matisse.
The children also looked at the architecture found in Spain by Antoni Gaudí along side Hundertwasser, as inspiration for their first piece of art work, an architectural design in their sketchbook using coloured pencil.
Inspired by Matisse's later art work, his paper cuts, Year 4 then created large paper cut collages of their pencil coloured architectural designs. Just like Matisse, the children created their collages using only scissors and glue, no pencils were allowed.
Next half term, Year 4 will be creating 3D paintings in the style of the Pop Art movement.
