Miró Inspired Collage.
Year 5 have started their Art journey this year developing their collage skills.
Inspired by the Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist Joan Miró, Year 5 looked closely at the Surrealist style in which Miró painted. They each created a large decorative collaged piece of work by cutting and sticking shapes and designs from coloured paper (no pencils were allowed), onto a large white background. The children were then introduced to the idea of automatic drawing in black pen. Automatic drawing is where you instantly draw in response to a sound, word or music for example. Responding to a surrealist monologue using automatic drawing, the children then drew onto their collage using a fine and thick black pen. This project particularly allows for the children to explore art in a fun and experimental way often resulting in unexpected outcomes.
Next half term, Year 5 will be looking at the artist Beatriz Milhazes for a painting project.
